privacy
privacy policy.
Pokonook is a fan-made community directory. We keep things simple and collect only what we need to make the site work. Effective date: April 17, 2026.
What we collect
- Email address — when you sign in via magic link. Used only for authentication and account-related communication.
- Profile information — display name, bio, and social links you choose to provide on your settings page.
- Submitted content — Cloud Island titles, descriptions, screenshots, Address Codes, Magic Numbers, and other metadata you submit.
- Usage data — pages visited, interactions, and basic device/browser info via analytics services (see below).
What we do NOT collect
- Payment information — Pokonook is free. We don’t process payments or store card data. Optional tips are handled entirely off-site by Ko-fi.
- Precise location — we don’t use GPS, geolocation APIs, or IP-based geotargeting for personalization.
- Device fingerprints — no canvas fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking IDs, no behavioral profiling.
- Nintendo account data — Pokonook is not affiliated with Nintendo. We never ask for your Nintendo Switch Online credentials, Friend Codes, or in-game save data.
Cookies & local storage
We use cookies and local storage for:
- Authentication — Supabase session cookies that keep you signed in.
- Theme preference — your light / dark / prismatic mode choice stored in local storage.
- Analytics — see the analytics section below for which providers are enabled and what they collect.
Analytics
Pokonook supports three analytics providers, each toggled independently via environment variables. On any given deployment, only the providers with configured keys are loaded — you can confirm which are active by inspecting the page source.
- Google Analytics 4 — aggregate traffic patterns. Cookie-based. You can opt out via your browser’s cookie settings or the GA opt-out extension.
- PostHog — product analytics. When enabled, uses an anonymous distinct-id cookie. No session replay is enabled.
- Plausible — privacy-first page analytics. Cookieless, no personal data collected, fully GDPR-compatible.
Advertising
When Google AdSense is enabled on a deployment, a limited number of display ad slots appear on browse pages (the homepage, biome, tag, Pokémon, and Magic Number pages). We do not place ads on Cloud Island detail pages, creator pages, submit forms, login, admin, or settings.
Google and its third-party vendors may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time:
- Google Ads Settings — manage your personalization across Google products.
- aboutads.info/choices — industry-wide opt-out.
Pokonook does not sell user data. Ads exist to cover hosting costs; see /support if you’d like to keep the ledger ad-free for everyone.
Third-party services
- Supabase — authentication, database, and image storage. Their privacy policy applies to data stored on their infrastructure.
- Vercel — hosting provider. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) are retained per their privacy policy.
- Ko-fi — optional tip jar. If you choose to tip, the payment is processed entirely on ko-fi.com and governed by their privacy policy. We never see your payment details.
Your rights
You can request to:
- Access your data — see what information we store about you.
- Delete your account — we will remove your profile and submitted content upon request.
- Export your data — receive a copy of your submissions and profile info.
Email hello@pokonook.com for any of these requests. We’ll respond within 7 business days.
Data retention
We retain your data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymous analytics data may be retained indefinitely.
Children
Pokonook is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. In line with COPPA, if you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a new effective date.
